India Expands Investments in Argentina’s Energy Sector, with a Focus on Lithium
India is strengthening its investments in Argentina’s mining, gas, and oil industries, with a particular emphasis on lithium, a critical component for its energy transition. Indian businesses are actively engaged in lithium exploration in Catamarca and are considering expansion into other provinces, drawn by the benefits of Argentina’s Large Investment Incentive Regime.

This initiative marks a significant development following a preliminary agreement signed in 2022 on mineral exploration, critical mineral supply, and technology advancement. A key step in this collaboration is the visit of Secretary V. L. Kantha Rao to Buenos Aires, marking the first in-person meeting with Argentine counterparts.

State-owned enterprises such as Khanij Bidesh India Ltd (KABIL) and Coal India, alongside private sector player Greenko, are currently exploring lithium deposits in Argentina’s northwest province of Catamarca, which borders Chile.
