Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Shri Pabitra Margherita, Embarks on Diplomatic Visit to Four Nations
The Honourable Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Shri Pabitra Margherita, has commenced an important diplomatic tour to Uruguay, the Bahamas, Barbados, and Nicaragua from February 26 to March 8, 2025. This visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new avenues for cooperation, marking a significant milestone in India's engagement with these nations.

Shri Margherita's first stop is Uruguay, where he will represent India at the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect H.E. Mr. Yamandú Orsi on March 1, 2025. His presence at this political event underscores India's warm and friendly ties with Uruguay.

Following his visit to Uruguay, Shri Margherita will travel to the Bahamas to build on the dialogue established during the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit in Guyana in November 2024. This visit reaffirms India’s commitment to strengthening its engagement with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and expanding cooperation in various sectors.

The next leg of his tour will take him to Barbados, where he will review bilateral relations in the wake of the India-CARICOM Summit. Notably, at the summit, it was announced that Shri Margherita would be conferred with the prestigious "Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados" on behalf of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, recognizing India's contributions to the region.

Shri Margherita will then proceed to Nicaragua, marking the first-ever ministerial visit from the Ministry of External Affairs to the country. His visit signifies India’s growing diplomatic presence in Latin America and underscores efforts to deepen ties with the region.

During the tour, the Minister is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with foreign ministers, senior officials, and key stakeholders in trade and industry. He will also engage with members of the Indian diaspora and visit development partnership projects, showcasing India's commitment to supporting regional development.

Additionally, Shri Margherita will participate in a business session in São Paulo, Brazil, on February 27, 2025, during his transit, further expanding India’s economic engagement with Latin America.

This diplomatic tour reflects India's proactive foreign policy approach, reinforcing partnerships in Latin America and the Caribbean. Shri Margherita's extensive experience in external affairs and economic policy positions him as a key figure in advancing India's strategic objectives in the region.
