Shri Margherita Meets Business Leaders and Marks Opening of Resident Indian Mission in Quito
Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Pabitra Margherita, engaged with representatives of the Ecuadorian business community in Quito today, discussing ways to deepen trade and investment linkages between India and Ecuador. Shri Margherita described the talks on X as productive, noting shared interest in collaboration across pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, agriculture, information technology, and skill development.

On the same day, Shri Margherita posted on X that he had been honoured and delighted to jointly inaugurate the resident Embassy of India in Quito alongside H.E. Gabriela Sommerfeld, Ecuador’s Foreign Minister a development he framed as reflecting India’s commitment to deepen bilateral partnership and open a new chapter in relations.

The Ministry of External Affairs has stated that Shri Margheritas visit includes reviewing preparations for establishing a resident Indian mission in Quito and pursuing measures to enhance consular support and trade facilitation. Taken together, the engagements signal New Delhi’s focused outreach to strengthen political, economic and people-to-people ties in the region.

Shri Margheritas visit is the first leg of a three-nation tour to Ecuador, Bolivia and Cuba (November 4-10), intended to advance South-South cooperation and bolster sectoral partnerships.
