India–Brazil Naval Cooperation Strengthened During CNS Visit to Brazil
India–Brazil maritime ties received renewed momentum during the official visit of Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), to Brazil, underscoring the growing strategic convergence between the two navies.

Prior to concluding his visit, Adm Tripathi toured the Brazilian Navy’s multipurpose amphibious helicopter carrier NAM Atlântico (A140) on December 12. He was hosted by Adm Cláudio Henrique Mello de Almeida, Commander of Naval Operations of the Brazilian Navy, and was given a guided tour of the vessel by its Commanding Officer. The visit provided an opportunity to closely examine the carrier’s operational capabilities and amphibious roles.

Discussions focused on the evolving strategic security environment in the Atlantic Ocean and the future of warfare in the maritime domain. Deliberations also covered the use of advanced technologies by non-state actors engaged in non-traditional and transnational crimes, the operational strengths of the Brazilian Navy fleet, and ways to further enhance interoperability between the Indian Navy and the Marinha do Brasil.

During the visit, the Indian CNS also attended the Passing Out Parade of 140 midshipmen of the Dom Pedro I Class at the Brazilian Naval Academy in Rio de Janeiro, highlighting the importance of training and professional exchanges.

Both engagements reaffirmed the shared commitment of India and Brazil to deepen maritime cooperation, advance joint security objectives, and strengthen defence and training partnerships.
