India's Population will Exceed 1.5 Billion by 2036
According to the forecast of the Indian Ministry of Statistics, the country's population will reach 1.522 billion by 2036, as reported by TASS. A change in the demographic structure is expected, with an increase in the proportion of elderly people over 60 and a decrease in children under 15 due to a decline in the birthrate. The proportion of women will increase to 48.8%, improving gender balance, with 952 women for every 1,000 men.
The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) predicts that India will retain its position as the most populous nation throughout the 21st century, surpassing China in population size. India's current population is estimated at 1.442 billion and already exceeds China's (1.425 billion). The UNFPA attributes this growth to improved socioeconomic conditions and reduced maternal mortality.
Today, 26% of the population of India is aged 10-24 years. The life expectancy for boys born in 2023 will be 71 years and for girls it will be 74 years.
