From Oceans to Opportunity: India and Brazil Deepen Fisheries & Blue Economy Cooperation
Ambassador of India to Brazil, Dinesh Bhatia (@dineshbhatia), met with Andrde Paula (@Andredepaula55), Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture of Brazil (@MPA_Br), to discuss new synergies between India and Brazil in the fields of fisheries, aquaculture, and sustainable ocean governance.

The meeting underlined the growing importance of blue economy cooperation, a priority for both countries. India, with its long coastline and global expertise in fish processing, aquaculture technologies, and marine research, is keen to share best practices with Brazil, which is expanding its aquaculture sector to boost exports and food security. Discussions touched upon opportunities for joint ventures, knowledge-sharing platforms, and greater market access for fish and seafood products in both countries.

Ambassador Bhatia highlighted Indias success in introducing digital technologies for fishermen, sustainable practices in coastal communities, and the potential for collaboration in marine biotech. Minister de Paula emphasized Brazils interest in diversifying partnerships, developing capacity-building exchanges, and leveraging Indias experience in fisheries management.

The dialogue forms part of the broader IndiaBrazil Strategic Partnership, which continues to expand beyond traditional trade into emerging sectors like renewable energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and now, fisheries and the maritime economy. The meeting reaffirmed that sustainable oceans and blue growth are key to the future of SouthSouth cooperation.
